Dr. MUHAMMAD YUNUS

Dr. Muhammad Yunus is an economist, social worker, entrepreneur and social leader. He was born in Chittagong on 28 June, 1940. He studied in the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka and was a professor of Economics at the University of Chittagong. Later in 2012, Yunus became the Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. He also served on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation. He always wanted to do something for the society by enabling the poor, especially the women to do something on their own. So he founded the Grameen Bank back to 1976, with an aim to provide poor people with small loans on easy terms. The bank comes with it's tagline "Bank For The Poor." Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank were awarded the Noble Prize in 2006 for their noble work and purpose of removing poverty and developing the economy, in the field of 'peace'. He is also the recipient of other international awards, including the Mohammad Shabdeen Award for science (1993), Sri-Lanka; Humanitarian Award (1993), CARE, USA; World Food Prize (1994), World Food Prize Foundation, USA; Independence Day Award (1987), the highest award of Bangladesh etc. Dr. Muhammad Yunus was named the Interim Government of Bangladesh on August 8, 2024. Being a Bangladeshi, it is a pride for us to have such a great personality in our country.
